Monday 20th October - MERSEY MODEL FLYERS WIN LOTTERY GRANT

The club has won a major grant from the National Lottery to make further improvements to our flying site at Halewood Liverpool. The grant was originally written to help the club make improvements to the new runway at the site but after careful seeding, nurturing and a lot of hard work from Kevin O'Reilly (our self confessed mower fanatic) and Eddie Cooper we now have a beautiful wide, flat and green runway that will only need a small portion of the money to feed and weed etc.

The money will be spent on the following –

  • Club Shelter – A Portakabin type container to provide shelter on those rainy days! Complete with stove for tea and bacon butties! water supply for ground maintenance and for storing minor items
  • Parking Area – Hard standing to provide a car parking area to prevent the access road from becoming mud bound during the winter
  • Access Road – Hard standing to the access road for unloading / loading etc
  • Safety Barrier – A safety barrier to the runway side for spectator control
  • Flagged Working Area – Flagged area for standing and flying preparation and keeping shoes dry!
  • Club Trainers – Transmitters, plane and helicopter for training purposes
  • Fun Fly – Major event in summer 2010 to publicise the club and place it firmly on the club circuit calendar

Marketing – flyers / posters etc to publicise the club

The fund will boost our already growing membership which has increased to 25 members from the original 11 in the last 6 months
