DH98 Mosquito -
Fuselage:
The Oracover coverings was stripped off the fuselage which is already sheeted very nicely in balsa requiring only a small strip on the base of the fuselage to be covered. I left the covering on the control surfaces to prevent any resin getting on to the balsa whilst I glassed the fuselage -
After glassing the fuselage itself the next stage was to strip off the covering from the control surfaces which require sheeting -
After sheeting the control surfaces are then glassed -
Lots of rubbing down, primer, panel line and rivets -
I didnt like the canopy that came with the model as the frame was overpowering in its thickness and poorly painted. I managed to find a suitable canopy from Traplet Publications and set about replacing. First task was to remove the existing canopy which came off easily. Next I took away what there was of a cockpit with the two naff pilots, I wiil build a new cockpit later. Then I temporarily fixed the new canopy in place to get a paint line for the inside edge of the cockpit -
This can then be masked and painted -
The Canopy is then masked leaving a small band of exposed canopy around the bottom edge for the glass fibre to adhere too, note that around the bottom I have used waterproof masking tape to prevent any resin seeping onto the canopy -
The canopy can then be glassed in place -
After rubbing down and filing primer is applied and the masking removed for the painting stage -
